Handled well, it delivers a depth and warmth that is hard to beat, which is why it endures in bedrooms, studies and formal reception rooms where wear and tear is low and atmosphere is everything.
The Gulf climate is worth a thought here too. Long months of air conditioning and sharp swings in humidity put more stress on a wall than many people expect, and this is where the substrate really earns its keep. A breathable non-woven or a well-sealed vinyl copes far better with these conditions than an unprotected paper on a wall that has not been properly prepared, so it pays to think about your room’s exposure before you commit to a design.
